oftn studio is a Seoul-based spatial design studio working across retail, brand experience, hospitality, and lifestyle environments.

our work explores how space, objects, and everyday experiences can be reinterpreted to create meaningful and lasting spatial narratives.
we coined the term “of thingness” to describe the inherent objectivity found in things. our work focuses on reinterpreting this sense of thingness, recognizing that small, everyday elements often hold the power to create meaningful change. Through a different perspective on the ordinary, new possibilities for transformation emerge.

Lighting and Spatial Composition

NOVECENTO is a rental studio designed to accommodate different teams, productions, and creative purposes. As a space that is continuously reinterpreted rather than defined by a single use or image, the design began with a simple question: How can one space become the backdrop for many different scenes?

The first consideration was light. Large windows on both sides of the space allow natural light to enter from different directions throughout the day. As its direction and intensity shift with time and weather, the same space takes on different atmospheres. Rather than functioning as fixed illumination, natural light becomes an active element that continuously reshapes the scene.

The second consideration was composition. Walls, openings, furniture, and objects are arranged as a series of spatial layers, creating different frames depending on the viewer’s position and perspective. As these layers overlap and separate, the relationship between foreground and background constantly changes, allowing a variety of depths and compositions to emerge within a single space.

Different textures and patterns are applied across these layers while maintaining a consistent overall tone. Each material provides a distinct surface and backdrop for photography, yet the restrained palette prevents the space from being dominated by any particular style or visual identity.

Ultimately, NOVECENTO is shaped by the interplay of changing light and layered composition, bringing diverse textures and patterns together within a coherent tonal language. Rather than presenting a predetermined scene, it remains a flexible backdrop where each user can create and capture their own.
